About

This is not an evangelical web site. No one here is going to try to convince you to disbelieve. There are plenty of powerful thinkers who are and have been working on that. This is a website about standing up in this moment — when the belief in supernatural beings is at the at the core of so much of the world’s suffering. It is time for decent, responsible non-believers to let their presence be known. To show by our very existence that another way is possible, that human goodness is not the province of religion any more than human evil is the product of a cloven-hooved fallen angel. It is time to say explicitly that inquiry — especially into the roots and consequences of our own beliefs — is a responsibility, not a heresy. Time to stand up for reason.

And because the ruling ideology in the US has an enormous and disproportionate influence on the future of the world, standing up for reason is especially important as it relates to American politics. So it is time to be counted as disbelievers, to vote our disbelief, and to insist always that gods are kept out of government. It is important keep an eye on how presidential and other candidates pander to religionists — because that has already got us into a hell of a lot of trouble and it could be worse.

And too, a disbeliever’s life is a thinking, studying, reasoning life and I hope this web site that can be a source of information on things rational, for the delight, interest, entertainment and enlightenment of all readers.

Civil discourse: You are invited to comment about any post on this website; conversation is good, but I’m not about sponsoring vitriolic flame fests on how people are hell-bound for not paying homage to the pink unicorn nor screeching thuggary against those who do — and please don’t waste our time trying to convert me. Just remember civil discourse is the word of the day and all comments on the site are subject to approval by me and you’ll do fine.
